Abstract
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~The truth, depth and importance of General Systems Thinking goes far beyond the recognition that organizations, systems and assemblies share operational dynamics. The consistency, coherence and compatibility of the universe runs so thoroughly through all its aspects that any part of it can stand as metaphor for other parts - regardless of simplicity or complexity, and regardless of which experienced level is the referencing frame through which to evaluate the rest.
General Systems thinking is more that a scientific tool to `prove' the shared similarities of dynamic physical and relational systems. It is more than a foundation on which to become more efficient organizers of life and potential. General Systems - as a way of thought - must also embrace and encourage the fact that literature, arts and human creative expression are already high examples showing that general systems awarenesses are an ingrained and ever present attribute of common abilities ... in all cultures, in all thought systems.
Internal and external `informings' are the constantly interacted resources from which we build the images, impressions, notions, feelings and comprehensions that in `summation' we identify and refer to as processes, life, performances, operations and being - self with world. Therefore, we take it as fact that there is as much to be learned from creative linguistic expressions as from formal scientific rigor.
Language, literature and mind - cultures, creativity and the arts - are resonances of deep understandings. They are valuable and lived acts, whether done out of naive innocence or the accomplishment of reflected wisdom. If mathematics is the language through which science models dynamic performances, then those understandings and relations have no value for complex sentience if not concurrently appreciated and expressed through words of texture and nuance and meaning. Therefore, the Persistence of Image SIG will focus on languages and the literatures of our many peoples and the cultural social voices of our experiences - where there already exists a deep capacity and competence in systemics."
