Avis/Notice
10 October 1997
Since returning from the New England Complex Systems Institute's first conference this past September, I have decided to make some significant adjustments to the INTEGRITY website, which is itself not more than a month old as of this writing. The NECSI conference was an outstanding premiere occassion capably orchestrated by Yaneer Bar-Yam, one of the few genuinely holistic thinkers in the field of Complexity today, and Michael Lissack, an accomplished enabler of complex human collaborations.
The scope of interests represented by the 300+ attendees ran the full gamut of human intellectual exploration. And what was most apparent was that even with all the astounding expertise and extensive information, there was an urgent hope that somewhere would arise a holistic theme capable of binding all the diversity together.
Candidly, reception to the offered INTEGRITY PARADIGM was split. Because I broached previously unconsidered aspects of systems behaviors, applying atypical notions from far-flung fields into an already highly structured mathematical formulation of Complexity, it was difficult for some to accept. Some of the more notable theorists and their followers understandably balked, since there was an inferred challenge to status quo perspectives. There were other theorists, researchers and social implementers however, who recognized the intent and applicability of INTEGRITY and acknowledged its potential importance. Especially as an ecumenical Philosophy. {I extend my thanks again to those several dozen people who gave Integrity their critical intellectual evaluation and openly voiced their support.}
As a result, I am announcing intended website changes which will be occurring between now and this December. Prior to the conference it was my intention to eventually post works or links to works of persons whom I felt were most creatively active in advancing holistic perceptions and novel approaches to understanding exitence. At the conference, I was happy to note that each and every presenter came forth with some aspect or another pointing in that direction. I will immediately begin posting works of other writers which have salience to the Integrity Paradigm. Independent work of particular note, and websites as they are available. This will not be a thorough list, but a working one. And interactive also. There will be a message site available from which I will post recommendations of persons or works that you refer as worthwhile. I will also establish an opinions site and openly post reactions to INTEGRITY ideas, both pro and con. I won't debate any offered opinions, just present them for consideration to other readers. The fundamental concept is that any system's integrity relies on information openness and adaptiveness to unforeseen potential. This theory will itself stand or fall by the same standards it says that all systems are susceptible to. It holds no special priority in the scheme of things. What feedback I receive, will be shared openly with everyone -- critiques or plaudits alike.
Plus, I will begin site-publication of my writings 1972-to-date. Topics will be broad and varied, with appropriate attention to comprehensiveness. The formats too will vary. There will be discursive explorations, commentaries, even poetry. It is my intent, in the midst of this expressive fervor, to include humanity and humor as well (double entende's and linguistic pluralities are invited.) Copies of the NECSI Complexity Conference video presentation "Non-Fractal Complexity" are now available upon request.
